Our role is to assist student members and dentists alike, being the voice and advocate of organized dentistry in Mississippi.
"My New Dentist Life" Blog
For the next 12 months, Dr. Emily Hobart, a 2015 graduate of Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine, will candidly share her stories and experiences — the highs and lows — of her first year as a new dentist in the latest New Dentist Now blog series called "My New Dentist Life." Her first post talks about the whirlwind of finding and interviewing for a job, the licensure process, graduation and relocating across the country to South Carolina to start her new job.

Growing Our Own Dentists - Mississippi Rural Scholarship Program
In 2013, the Mississippi Legislature authorized the Mississippi Rural Dentists Scholarship Program (MRDSP), creating a unique longitudinal program that identifies rural college students who aspire to return to their roots to practice general dentistry. MRDSP's three phases include: Initial (prior to matriculation to dental school); dental school training; and actual practice. Maintaining a high level of awareness and involvement in Mississippi's rural health care is a constant in every phase of training. Channeling scholars into general dentistry or pediatric dentistry will target the current rural dental shortage.
To jump start the flow of general dentists in the pipeline in 2013, three UMMC School of Dentistry students were awarded state-funded scholarships valued at $35,000. Currently, MRDSP has 5 undergraduates, 6 scholars, and 1 practicing dentist. Each scholar embraces his or her small town values and culture, sharing a common passion for making a difference in rural communities.

MDA Senior Student Award
This annual award is presented to the graduating senior who demonstrates outstanding characteristics for continued success in dentistry while attending the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry.
UMMC Senior Class Convocation and Banquet
The MDA assist with sponsorship of the this annual event honoring the graduating senior class.
Other ADA Programs Custom Designed for New, Intermediate and Graduating Dental Students
These programs are provided by ADA trained dentist facilitators as well as MDA member volunteers. These organized dentistry volunteers present programs that address information about the profession as well as tips on a successful dental school journey to graduation.
MDA Board of Trustees and Mississippi Dental Association Political Action Committee Board Service
Student representatives are selected by SoD administration to serve on these oragnized dentistry boards. Annually, a D-3 and a D-4 are selected to serve through meeting participation and are kept informed of activities via electronic communications. Our 2015-16 representatives are: Brannon Myrick - D4 and Olivia Van Gordon - D3.
Looking for a Job
It is the desire of the MDA to serve our dentists and dental community by offering a new service to share information and assist dental students with identifying practice opportunities within the state of Mississippi.
The Mississippi Dental Association has created a Student Member Career Opportunities Service where we offer assistance in connecting dentists and dental students who are looking to buy a practice or enter into an associateship after graduation.

Your information will be posted on the MDA website viewable on the member’s only area. We will also make this available to attendees at all MDA District Meetings held in January/February 2016.
